Don Horn 4 Congress
THE SPEECH
As I see it, there are at least four things I need to win this election: God’s Blessing, A Hope and A Prayer, And Everybody in the District Voting and Praying for me to win. It is my hope and prayer that you travel this journey with me.
Joke:
What’s a Blue Dog Democrat? A Dinosaur. A Fiscally Conservative Democrat. What’s a Yellow Dog Democrat? A Democrat who would vote for a Yellow Dog before they would vote for a Republican. What’s a Red Dog Democrat? A RINO Republican who is more loyal to their Political Corporate Masters and Democrat Allies than they are to their Constituents.
Before he was a Republican, Ralph Hall was a True Blue Dog Democrat. He was a man truly worthy of respect. He is a Great model of what a Representatives should be to the people of his district. If you had ever met Ralph Hall, you’d agree that he was one of the few good people in politics. He was instantly a friend. He took care of his constituents. That is what a representative is supposed to do for his district.
History
My Name is Don Horn. I am a U.S. Navy Veteran. After the military, I worked my way through college. My wife and I met in college. We raised our five children on our farm in Grayson County, Texas. We are at the age of retirement. We had no desire to take on any new projects. We looked forward to living out a nice quiet retirement. However, we can no longer ignore the reality of the world around us.
I have a Bachelor’s degree from California Baptist College in Religion & Sociology. My wife has her Master’s Degree in nursing. She has worked as a nurse since 1975, and as an ICU nurse since 1980.
Dad was born and raised In Ripley County, Missouri. Mom was born and raised in Hot Springs, Arkansas. My parents met and married in California after my dad was mustered out of the Army, at the end of World War 2. My mom’s family followed the migration of the dust bowl immigrants in the 1930’s. They traveled from Arkansas to California working in the produce industry. They eventually settled in Modesto, CA. This is where my parents met and married. They settled on the Mexican Border near El Centro, California.
My mom, dad and mom’s extended family followed the produce industry. They traveled preset routes of the produce migration. They were “shed” and “field” workers. Every winter they worked on the Mexican Border and every summer they worked in the area from Salinas to Modesto. The life was hard seasonal work with long hours. Moving was a constant migration in the produce industry. Our family were produce workers- “Fruit Tramps” as they were proudly known.
In 1959 Uncle Jerry (Jerry Breshears, Mom’s brother) went to work for the AFL-CIO local 78B- Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Workers Union. He quickly worked his way to being the General Secretary of Local 78B. Uncle Jerry negotiated with the packing sheds from the California/Mexican Border to Sacramento California, all of Nevada & Arizona. According to family History, it was Uncle Jerry who helped Cesar Chavez organize the United Farm Workers Union. (Cesar was born in Yuma, Arizona, about fifty miles east of Holtville, California, where Uncle Jerry lived.) Uncle Jerry was the first of our family to graduate from college. After Uncle Jerry, My brother Mike and myself were among the first family members to graduate from college.
Social Work
As a teenager I began working with church youth groups. About this same time my older brother started working with CHARLEE Family Care. (CHARLEE is an acronym for: Children Have All Rights Legal Educational and Emotional.) For several years, after the Navy, I worked part time for my brother as a relief parent in the group homes for disadvantaged teenagers. Simultaneously, I worked full time for ARC (The Association for Retarded Citizens). I worked there for several years. First I started working in the group homes. Then I taught in the school for the severely and profoundly retarded clients.
In 1989, my wife and I moved to Richardson, Texas, after graduating from college. In 1997, we bought our small piece of land in Grayson County, Texas.
My Values
My values have been shaped by what I have seen and experienced throughout my life.
My early years, growing up in a migrant family was not easy. It was hard seasonal work with long hours.
In the Navy, as an Operation Specialist, my job description was: To assimilate, evaluate and disseminate information with advice and opinions. Preachers do the same job with their sermons and Bible studies. Sociology is the same process- gather, evaluate and disseminate information into reports.
Life is a constant exercise in gathering and evaluating information and overcoming problems.
ISSUES
Protect our Country
We need to protect and increase our water supplies in Texas. Water is the life blood of societies. People need clean water to drink, grow food and raise livestock.
Veterans are not political chess pieces. We must be treated with respect.
Government Corruption should anger every American!
After the antics of “The Squad” & Ilhan Omar, every member of Congress must be Born in the USA. We need LOUD & PROUD Americans in Congress!
America is a sovereign nation with sovereign borders that must be protected.
English should be the only “Official” language of the government.
America’s greatest threats are The Communist Chinese who have their fingers into every aspect of our lives. And, Refugees who hold their allegiance to their foreign governments and the land they fled.
Protect Our Rights
Securing our Speech: This is America, we say what we want to say.
Securing Our Guns: Gun control is the fastest way to destroy America. If we give up our 2A rights, then we have no other rights.
Our sixth Amendment rights must be protected. The “plea agreement” process should not be used to violate a person’s 6th Amendment rights and to compel a conviction.
Securing Our Votes: There must be a Constitutional Amendment requiring Proof of Citizenship to vote
Protect Our Families:
Parents have the Right & Responsibility to oversee their children’s life, education & health care.
Our Children in The Military Should Not Be Dying to Protect the Financial Investments of Corporations, Politicians, and Foreign Governments. No Parent Deserves to be a “Gold Star Parent.”
Protect Our District & Our Land
North Texas Counties and Cities should have the right to determine the nature of the businesses that can be established in our communities.
(A corporation’s rights to pursue profits does not supersede the communities right to live and maintain a peaceful healthy life, our families, or our property values. Errant leaders should be held criminally liable.)
Call For Action:
We must work together to protect Our Country- Our Rights- Our Water- Our Air- Our lands & Our Families!
